FIBC Bags for Powder and Granule Chemicals: Dust-Free Handling Solutions

Technical guide to FIBC bag selection for fine powder and granule chemicals, including dust control, anti-static requirements, and discharge system design.

## Powder and Granule Chemical Packaging Challenges

Fine chemical powders and granules present unique packaging challenges that require careful FIBC bag selection. The combination of fine particle size, potential dust hazards, and strict product purity requirements demands specialized bag designs.

## Dust Control in Powder Handling

Chemical powder dust is a major occupational health and safety concern. Many chemical powders are classified as hazardous substances with exposure limits measured in milligrams per cubic meter. Effective dust control requires coated fabric to prevent fine particles from permeating through the fabric weave, spout-top filling that connects directly to process equipment, spout-bottom discharge that connects to receiving equipment, and inner PE liner for the finest powders and most hazardous materials.

## Anti-Static Requirements for Flammable Powders

Many organic chemical powders are flammable or explosive when dispersed in air. The minimum ignition energy (MIE) of some powders is less than 1 millijoule, far below the energy that can be stored in a standard FIBC bag.

Type C FIBC bags contain a grid of conductive threads that must be grounded during use. They are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas with flammable powders.

Type D FIBC bags use dissipative threads that prevent static accumulation without grounding. They are suitable for Zone 2 areas and are preferred where grounding is impractical.

## Product Purity and Contamination Prevention

Chemical products often have strict purity specifications requiring virgin PP resin with no recycled content, clean room production for pharmaceutical and electronic chemical applications, batch traceability with lot numbers and production records, and migration testing to confirm no harmful substances migrate from bag to product.

Bridgent offers a complete range of FIBC bags for chemical powder and granule applications, from standard coated bags to specialized Type C and Type D anti-static bags. All products are tested by SGS or BV and certified to ISO 21898.
